FIG Academy pioneer Vietnam hosts course for Aerobic Gymnastics

Vietnam hosted the thirty-first Academy for Aerobic Gymnastics in Hanoi on June 19-26, 2017, in the facilities of the Hanoi Aerobic Gymnastics Club. Vietnam was one of the first countries to host a Level 1 Aerobic Academy back in 2008 and then hosted levels 2 and 3 in 2011 and 2012.

The FIG Academy programme, which came to life in 2002, turns 15

Fifteen years ago, from February 18-25, 2002, the first FIG Academy was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Forty-three coaches from nine countries participated: Malaysia, Thailand, India, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam and Pakistan.

More than 20 coaches and technicians participated in a “Foundations of Gymnastics” course held in Maia (POR) from August 28-September 4. Participants representing five nations – Brazil, Estonia, Great Britain, Italy and Portugal – displayed a perfect attendance record and were “very much committeed in all activities,” reported Rogério Valério, the FIG’s Gymnastics for All Committee Vice President and course leader.

Portugal hosts its 15th FIG Academy

During the period September 9-16, 2014, the Portugal Gymnastics Federation hosted its 15th FIG Academy. That puts it in first place for hosting among the fifty-nine federations that have hosted FIG Academies. This Academy overlapped almost exactly with a Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy held in Philippines which because of being in a different time zone began about eight hours earlier.

FIG Academy Programme begins 2014 in Azerbaijan

As it did in 2013, Azerbaijan hosted the first FIG Academy in 2014. It was a Level 2 Academy for Rhythmic Gymnastics in the capital city of Baku on January 11-18. It was the first of about twenty-five FIG Academies expected in 2014.
