Visits were conducted to the four hotels as well as the competition, training and warm-up halls, all located in the Putian Complex Sports Gymnasium, which was also used as the main venue for the 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships. The venue’s maximum capacity of 6,000 will be reduced to 5,000 for the Acrobatic World Gymnastics Championships.
Plans for the 25th Acrobatic Worlds and 9th WAGC, slated for March 20 – April 3, 2016, were discussed. The venue meets FIG requirements and all areas (competition, training and warm-up halls) are practically located under the same roof.
Covering an area of approximately 3'800 km2 and home to 3,5 million inhabitants, the city of Putian is a two-hour drive from Fuzhou International Airport. Hotels are all located within a 10-15 minute drive from the competition venue.
A preparatory commission has been established for this event, with city Mayor Weng Yuyao as the director and a support office with eight operational areas under the commission's leadership.
“This event is important for Putian, allowing the promotion of the city with this high and world level sports event,” said Zhang Libing, the Vice Mayor. “It is an important event for Acrobatic Gymnastics in China.” added Miao Zhongyi. “In order to guarantee the best preparation, the Chinese Gymnastics Association will organise the National Acrobatic Championships in November 2015 in the same venue. It will be the test event for the World Championships.”
With 12 months to go before the event, organisers have shown a high level of preparation. This visit confirms that all requirements will be met and that organisers are engaged and committed to providing the best conditions for both the participating delegations and the FIG.
The FIG is confident that the 2016 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships and World Age Group Competitions will be a success.
