Chinese Acrobatic Gymnastics Men's Group named IWGA Team of the Month09/05/2016
The International World Games Association (IWGA) named the Chinese Men’s Group in Acrobatic Gymnastics "IWGA Team of the Month for April 2016" following the group's gold medal performance at the 25th FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in Putian (CHN).
The new four-man Group of Li Zheng, Rui Liuming, Zhang Teng and Zhou Jiahuai continued China's winning streak started by their predecessors in 2012. On the last day of the 2016 Worlds in Putian, the foursome lived up to tradition by finishing 1.6 points over silver medallist Israel, which was the largest margin of victory in any category. They were the only team able to defeat powerhouse Russia, which won the other five titles up for grabs in Putian.
The Men’s Group qualified China for a place to compete in Acrobatic Gymnastics at The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw (POL) on July 20 - 30.
Fresh off their golden performances, the world champion Acrobatic Group demonstrated the technical mastery of their craft before the eyes of the sports public at the opening ceremony of the SportAccord convention in Lausanne (SUI) on April 19.
"It is important to us to increase the visibility of Acrobatic Gymnastics," FIG President Bruno Grandi (ITA) said about the opportunity to demonstrate the beauty of this discipline in front of the delegates of more than 100 international sports federations.
