10/10/2016The 2016 FIG World Cup series in Acrobatic Gymnastics concluded last weekend with the event in Rzeszow (POL) that followed tournaments in Puurs (BEL) and Maia (POR) at the beginning of the year.
Although absent from Rzeszow, the 2016 World Championships runners-up, Vincent Casse and Arne van Gelder of Belgium, secured the overall title in the Men’s Pair category with 60 points, thanks to their gold medals won in both Puurs and Maia. The series winners in Women’s Pairs were Marharyta Bartashevich and Viktoryia Miknovich of Belarus World Championships silver medallists from Putian (CHN), whose first place came thanks to the 30 points they had earned for their victory in Puurs. In Mixed Pairs, Russia’s Elena Murashko and Ivan Nesterenko added a fourth-place finish in Rzeszow to their World Cup tally, which moved them up in the rankings but still left them second behind their compatriots Ekaterina Vdovina and Maksim Soprunov. The latter duo had collected 60 points with their victories in Puurs and Maia to take the overall series title in their category.
In Women’s Groups, the 2016 World Championships finalists from Portugal – Joana Patrocinio, Jessica Correia and Susana Pinto – narrowly outscored Azerbaijan’s Aynur Huseynova, Lala Huseynova and Narmin Ramazanova by 37 to 36 points to be crowned winners of the World Cup series. Due to insufficient participation numbers no World Cup points were awarded in Men’s Groups.
