22nd FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships
Wroclaw (POL), July 16 - 18, 2010
The retirement of 2008 World and 2009 World Games Champions Mikola Cherbak / Sergei Popov (UKR) made way for new faces to score big this year, as Great Britain and Russia volleyed for the title. In Qualifications, Glasgow and Kaohsiung runners-up, Konstantin Pilipchuk / Aleksei Dudchenko (RUS), took the lead over Edward Upcott / Douglas Fordyce (GBR) and Belarus’ young stars Yauheni Kalachou / Ruslan Fedchanka.
Starting in fifth position in the Final and with Belarus and Russia still to come, Upcott / Fordyce gave an outstanding presentation; 9.550 points for Execution! Relieved to see this competition coming to a close, the two men shouted for joy as they received their scores in the arms of their coach. Thanks to their impeccable Execution and a slightly higher Difficulty than the Russian Pair Pilipchuck / Dudchenko, the British took home their first world title.
The Russian Pair added another somewhat disappointing Silver to its collection, and Kalachou / Fedchanka’s solid performances throughout the competition were awarded with a well merited Bronze at their first World Championships.
