14th World Gymnaestrada
Lausanne (SUI), July 10 - 16, 2011
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, July 10, 2010: In precisely one year, on July 10, 2011, some 23,000 gymnasts will flood the streets of Lausanne (SUI) to participate in the 14th edition of the FIG World Gymnaestrada.
Created in 1953, the event is the biggest on the FIG calendar by virtue of the number of gymnasts involved. It is a pure demonstration of the very culture of Gymnastics for All. Gymnasts of all ages and from nearly 60 countries are expected to flock to the capital of the Vaud canton, where its population will increase by one sixth over a period of ten days!
Starting today, July 10, 2010, the FIG has officially opened accreditation for journalists and photographers covering the event. http://www.fedintgym.com/mediamanager/
Hosting the World Gymnaestrada in the Olympic capital is a major event in the history of the FIG, the oldest established sport federation worldwide, founded in 1881. After Basel in 1969 with 9,600 participants, and Zurich in 1982 with 14,200, Lausanne is the Swiss Gymnastics Federation third time to host this event at home.
In 2015, the World Gymnaestrada will leave Lausanne for the Finnish capital Helsinki.
