2010 FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Series

LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, December 10, 2009: Originally scheduled in Angra do Heroismo, the 1st FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Series and the Azores International Aerobic Gymnastics Open will both take place in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal from April 28 to May 3, 2010. The Gymnastics Federation of Portugal decided to relocate the event for logistic reasons.

Ponta Delgada’s largest theatre – Coliseu Micaelense – will be the perfect stage for these international competitions; it was also the place where the Gymnastics Federation of Portugal (GFP) and its two main partners, the Ponta Delgada City Council and Kebrostress Event Management Company, held an initial press conference to present the event.

The conference publicly celebrated the Azorean capital’s first time hosting a FIG World Series event, and both the City Mayor (Ms Berta Cabral) and GFP Executive Director (Mr Paulo Pires) stressed the fact that Ponta Delgada not only offers unique conditions for Aerobics Gymnastics competitions, it also provides an ideal backdrop for participants in terms of accommodation, meals, transportation and an historic venue site.

Right from the “Coliseu” centre stage, organisers informed the media of all the logistics involved in the organisation of these events. The final word was an informal invitation addressed to the National Federations and aerobic gymnasts to attend these competitions in 2010 and at the same time discover the Capital of the Azores Archipelago – Ponta Delgada!
