France tops ranking in Oaxtepec

LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, December 14, 2009: The fifth Copa Mexico Nuevo Milenio took place on December 9-11 in Oaxtepec (MEX). Gymnasts were psyched up and ready to give it their best shot at this last World Series event of the season, zeroing in on one thing: upping their final scores on the FIG World Ranking list. With three Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze medal, the French gymnasts prevailed over China (3G, 2S), Argentina (1S, 2B), Mexico (1S, 2B) and Brazil (1B) in the overall ranking.

Parallel to the Copa Mexico Nuevo Milenio, the Panamerican Aerobic Gymnastics Championships and the International Age Group Competitions for category 12 – 14 and 15 – 17 junior gymnasts took place in Oaxtepec.

Individual Men

2008 World runner-up Morgan Jacquemin from France (21.000) defeated 18 year old Mexican Josefath Ivan Veloz Velazquez (20.400) and his own compatriot Benjamin Garavel (20.050) in the Men’s Individual competition.

Individual Women

In Women’s Individual, China’s Huang Jinshuan left her opponents in the dark, scoring a Gold medal winning 20.350. Runner-up Aurélie Jolie (FRA) tied with Argentinean Daiana Nanzer (19.700), forced to accept third place as payment for a lower Execution score.

Mixed Pair

In Mixed Pair, reigning World Champions Aurélie Joly / Julien Chaninet from France once again demonstrated complete dominance in this category. They scored 20.400 points and took the lead on Chinese He Shijian / Huang Jinshuan (19.900) and Maria Sol Magdaleno / Martin Brizzi from Argentina (19.900).

Mixed Pair FRA

Trio

China’s Trio featuring Che Lei / Liu Chao / Tao Le scored 20.850 and won the title. France’s Garavel / Garavel / Jacquemin captured Silver (20.600) and Brazil with Oliveira / Antero / Dias settled for Bronze (19.616).

Group

In the Group competition, China was unbeatable (20.459), vanquishing
Argentina (18.339) and Mexico (17.400) with a comfortable lead.

Team

Alongside their trio performance, Morgan Jaquemin and Benjamin Garavel in Men’s Individual, and Aurélie Joly and Julien Chaninet in Mixed Pairs, the French Team collected the highest overall score (82.050) in Oaxtepec and outscored teams from China (81.700) and host Mexico (73.200).
