Orientation Meeting

RODEZ (FRA), FIG Office, June 13, 2010: While training sessions for Senior and Junior gymnasts got underway in Rodez’ Amphithéâtre and Dojo Hall, delegations were officially welcomed to the 11th FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships and the 4th World Age Group Competitions this morning at an orientation meeting.

Yves Estivals (FRA), Co-President of the Local Organising Committee, opened the meeting and passed on a welcome message on behalf of the City of Rodez, wishing gymnasts and officials a wonderful stay in the capital of Aveyron and success in their endeavour. Estivals underlined that the competition is an eco-friendly event.

Lydie Arola (FRA), Managing Director of these championships and representative of the French Gymnastics Federation (FFG), recalled that France hosted the 1st Aerobic Gymnastics Championships in 1995 and that it is a great honour for the federation to welcome the international Aerobic family again this year. She thanked the FIG for its confidence and wished all participants successful competitions.

FIG Vice-President Slava Corn (CAN) says she is delighted to be the representative for FIG Aerobic Gymnastics. She maintains a vision for the future of gymnastics as well as the World Age Group Competitions. Corn conveyed greetings on behalf of FIG President Bruno Grandi and thanked the FFG, particularly the LOC, and the many volunteers for their excellent job in organising the event.

President of the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics TC Mireille Ganzin (FRA) fully supports Corn’s compliments, and is convinced that staging the WAGC together with the World Championships is sure to bring about a favourable outcome. Ganzin introduced the members of the Technical Committee, gave an overview of the judges’ instructions and the adjustments that were made to the FIG Technical Regulations, and wished the competitors all the best.

Finally and on behalf of the FFG, Dominique Muller-Mauth introduced Alain Boudes and Marin Bernussou, Co-Presidents of the LOC alongside Estivals, and their supporting staff on-site. She closed the meeting by giving an overview of operational procedures and organisational details.

With this official kick off, we now give the floor to these enthusiastic gymnasts and look forward to seeing their performances, and exciting competitions!
