African Gymnastics Union (UAG)
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, January 8, 2010: FIG President Prof Bruno Grandi (ITA) met today with UAG member federation leaders at the FIG Head Office in Lausanne (SUI). President Grandi was pleased to welcome UAG President Mohamed Yamani (ALG), FIG Council Member and President of the Moroccan Federation Col Maj Mustapha Zekri, Mohamed El Youbi (MAR), and Amr Mostafa El-Saeid, President of the Egyptian Federation.
Today’s discussions hinged primarily on the development of the sport of gymnastics in the North African region, a high potential area for all FIG disciplines. More and more African gymnasts participate in FIG World Championships with steadily improving results. Follow up meetings of today’s gathering are planned in the near future with the aim of fostering the African gymnastics movement.
At present, the focus lies on the upcoming African Championships, a qualifying event for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, set to be held in Walvis Bay (NAM) in March.
