FIG photo database www.fig-photos.com
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, February 9, 2010: In collaboration with its official photographer Volker Minkus and zensario GmbH, a Germany based software development company, the International Gymnastics Federation recently launched a website featuring photographs from the 2009 FIG World Championships in Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics, the 1st Gym for Life Challenge and the 8th World Games exclusively.
Photos of previous events will be added successively to the database, and following each FIG event a selection of pictures will be made available online.
Online portal now open!
The portal, which is provided in 5 different languages, is now open to the FIG affiliated federations, the general public and the media for online purchase of the archived photos at www.fig-photos.com. Prices vary depending on the quality of pictures selected and their intended use. Fans for instance can purchase small size photos of their favourite gymnasts for private use for the price of 3 CHF.
Supporting the national gymnastics federations
As a service meant to buttress FIG policy to support the national gymnastics federations, the FIG offers a free download of a limited number of pictures per event to the 127 FIG member federations for their exclusive use. Broad and impartial coverage allows gymnasts with lower international profiles to enjoy greater visibility; they include athletes who participate at world championship events but who fail to place at the top. By means of this platform, the FIG moves one step closer to bringing greater democracy to the sport of gymnastics.
