AGU Office Doha (QAT), June 15, 2012: The Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) was among the winners at the 2011-12 edition of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) annual awards ceremony in Doha. The prestigious event, staged in conjunction with the Qatar Sports Press Committee (QSPC), recognises individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to Qatari sport over the past 12 months.

The QGF received the Ideal Federation Award, the highest possible award that the QOC can bestow on a national governing body. It was, in part, recognition for the federation’s outstanding efforts in hosting the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Challenge Cup in Doha earlier this year, which attracted top gymnasts from all over the world and was deemed a huge success.
Meanwhile, several other national federations – the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, the Qatar Basketball Federation, and the Qatar Association of Athletics Federation – were also honoured, with each receiving the Golden Federation Award.
In thanking the QOC, QGF President Mr. Ali Al-Hitmi expressed his pride and delight at the award: “We have worked very hard to earn this prize, and I think we deserve it,” he enthused.
Also honoured at the awards ceremony was Qatari gymnast Shaden Mahmoud Wahdan, in recognition of her great performance during the Arab Games in Doha in December 2011, where she scooped two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal.
