After Universiade, Gymnasiade!
Lausanne (SUI) / FIG Office, August 01, 2012: In preparation for the 2013 Gymnasiade, scheduled for Brasilia (BRA) November 27 – December 4, the President of the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics Technical Committee, Ms Mireille Ganzin (FRA), paid a visit to the competition venue to size up event preparations.
The Gymnasiade is a quadrennial competition organised by the International Scholastic Sports Federation (ISF). It brings together events in Athletics, Swimming and Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics. Its first edition was held in 1974 in Wiesbaden (GER).
After meeting with success at the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen (CHN), Aerobic Gymnastics continued to pursue development and progress at the international level, gaining the respect of Gymnasiade organisers and earning a place on the 2013 programme. The competition is open to male and female athletes aged 15 – 17 in categories Solo H, Solo F, Mixed Pairs, Trios and Groups.
The FIG AER/TC President’s initial contact was encouraging and Ganzin reports an excellent level of preparation. The President also had an opportunity to meet with delegates from other sports on the Gymnasiade programme.
Collaborating during the visit: Norbert Kever (BEL), ISF Executive Director; Carmen Basla (ITA), for Artistic Gymnastics; Ana Maria Valenti (ESP), for Rhythmic; Fernando Delgado (PUR), for Swimming; Mireille Ganzin (FRA), FIG AER/TC President.

Reunion.
Seizing the opportunity of this visit to Brasilia, the President travelled to Sao Paulo to pay a courtesy visit to Maria Eduarda Poli, head of Aerobic in Brazil, international judge and President of the discipline’s Technical Committee at the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU), as well as Fabiano Redondo, head of Marketing at the Brazilian Federation.
The City’s two biggest clubs were also represented:
The SPFC (Sao Paulo Football Club), where coach Luciana July and Marcella Lopez train, triple FIG world champion and Gold medallist at the World Games who has recommenced training with her sister Marina and partner Cibeleont. Ever enthusiastic, all three of them intend to get back into competition in Pairs or even Groups, providing they can convince their partners to join them in their new adventure.
