Prestigious Gala in Helsinki
Lausanne (SUI) FIG Office, January 23, 2013: A traditional gala evening that brings together Finnish sport’s top athletes for its 2012 awards was held in Helsinki (FIN). Covered by the national network, the annual, prestigious event is widely popular.
Enjoying the festivities was the President of the Finnish Gymnastics Federation and new FIG Council Member, Ms Anne Martikainen, alongside her Vice-President, Dr Erkki Vuori, Member of the FIG Medical Commission, and Ms Kirsti Partanen, President of the World Gymnaestrada’s next edition to be held in the country’s capital in 2015.
Among the athletes gathered there, gymnasts Tomi Tuuha for his 2010 European Vault Title and Annika Urvikko for her participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London were recognized.

The public relished in a demonstration given by the 1997 World Horizontal Bar Champion, also current President of the FIG Athletes’ Commission, Jani Tanskanen, proving to the world that age has no bearing on a gymnast’s talent.
Gymnastics placed once again on the podium of the Finnish Sports Awards; in third, the Kuopion Reippaan Voimistelijat Club was issued a € 2,500 cheque for their phenomenal results in 2012.
