LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, March 13, 2013: The first of two FIG World Cups in Acrobatic Gymnastics in 2013 will take place on March 16 – 17 in Maia (POR). The event features competitions in Women’s, Men’s and Mixed Pairs as well as Women’s Groups, with gymnasts from Belgium, Belarus, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Puerto Rico and Russia participating. The Belgian Men’s Group is scheduled to perform hors concours in their category.
While reigning World Champions Laure de Pryck and Nicolas Vleeshouwers of Belgium are the favourites in Mixed Pairs, Belarusian Ruslan Fedchanka and Yauheni Kalachou, who won World Bronze at last year’s championships in Lake Buena Vista (USA), look strong in Men’s Pairs. Their compatriots and World Silver medallists in Women’s Pairs Yana Yanusik and Sviatlana Mikhnevich face strong competition from Russia in the form of Valentina Kim and Elizaveta Dubrovina, who just missed out on the podium in Lake Buena Vista.
The Women’s Group category boasts the largest field and includes the 2012 World Silver and Bronze medallists from Belgium and Belarus respectively, which will spice up the fight for the title in Maia.
Host Portugal will be represented by three Women’s Groups as well as Lake Buena Vista finalist and European Champion Gonçalo Roque and new partner Leonor Oliveira, who together build a Mixed Pair.
