LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, March 14, 2013: The 19th edition of the Internationaux de France will open its doors March 16-17, 2013 in La Roche sur Yon (FRA). Fans and gymnasts alike are excited about an event that spotlights the world’s best gymnastic talent.
Having taken place for the first time in 1986 and held under the FIG label since 2001, this traditional tournament features the first event of the 2013 FIG Artistic Gymnastics individual apparatus World and World Challenge Cup season, with qualifications on Saturday and finals on Sunday.
The line-up for both the Men’s and Women’s events is set to include a number of medallists from London 2012 - with reigning Olympic champions Krisztian Berki of Hungary (Pommel Horse) and Hak Seon Yang of South Korea (Men’s Vault) heading the bill.
Moreover, Olympians Denis Ablyazin of Russia (Silver on Vault and Bronze on Floor Exercise), Max Whitlock of Great Britain (Bronze on Pommel Horse), Igor Radivilov of Ukraine (Bronze on Vault) and France’s own Hamilton Sabot (Bronze on Parallel Bars) will compete at the first major international competition for event specialists this year in La Roche sur Yon.
Leading the way in the Women’s competition are members of the Russian and Romanian teams, including Olympic Bronze medallist on Vault Maria Paseka (RUS), Kseniia Afanaseva (RUS), Diana Bulimar (ROU) and Larisa Iordache, the latter competing on all four apparatus. Eighth in the Olympic All-around competition and currently third in the FIG All-around World Ranking, Vanessa Ferrari of Italy will compete in every event but Vault while veteran Oksana Chusovitina, who starts for Uzbekistan again, will compete on her specialty apparatus, Vault.
Host France registered Marine Brevet on Balance Beam and Floor Exercise, and Anne Kuhm on Balance Beam.

About 2013 FIG Individual Apparatus Artistic Gymnastics World Cup and Challenge Cup Series
The 2013 World and Challenge Cup season for individual-apparatus tournaments features a total of six events. The series starts with the only Individual Apparatus Finals World Cup of the year in La Roche sur Yon (FRA) on March 16-17, and continues with five Challenge Cups scheduled as follows: Cottbus (GER) on March 21-24, Doha (QAT) on March 27-29, Ljubljana (SLO) on April 26-28, Anadia (POR) on June 21-23, and Osijek (CRO) on September 12-16.
With separate World Ranking lists being established for this series (six for men and four for women), and the Individual Apparatus rankings including combined lists for the World Cup and Challenge Cups, the overall winners will be crowned in Osijek.
World Cups with Individual Apparatus qualification rounds and finals are open to the apparatus finalists of the 2012 Olympic Games and the best four gymnasts per apparatus from the 2012 World Cup Ranking list for Individual Apparatus. In addition, the organising member federation can grant wild cards to a maximum of one man and one woman.
The Challenge Cup series is an open category, with participation limited to two gymnasts per country and apparatus, and invitations addressed at least to the apparatus finalists of the 2012 Olympic Games and the best eight gymnasts per apparatus from the 2012 World Cup Ranking list for Individual Apparatus.
The winners of the 2013 Individual Apparatus World Cup & Challenge Cup Series will be the gymnasts with the highest number of points for each apparatus and the best four results counting after the last event in Osijek.
