The Line-up for the World Cup Final

Lausanne (SUI), November 28, 2008: The latest FIG Ranking List designated finalists for the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Final. Eight gymnasts per apparatus are eligible for the event, and it’s up to them to confirm their participation.

The Chinese delegation was among the first to react, announcing the participation of Cheng Fei, Yang Yiling, Li Shanshan, He Kexin and Jiang Yuyan in Madrid’s Women’s competitions and Zhang Hongtao in Men’s. More are sure to follow.

Other names on the definitive list for women include Elena Zamolodchikova (RUS), Sandra Izbasa (ROU) and Suzanne Harmes (NED). For men, Hiroyuki Tomita (JPN), Anton Golotsutskov (RUS), Yuri van Gelder (NED) Jeffrey Wammes (NED), Yann Cucherat (FRA), Philippe Rizzo (AUS) and Evgeni Sapronenko (LAT) have confirmed.

A minor disappointment, however, with the withdrawal of Fabian Hambüchen (GER), Oxana Chusovitina (GER), Gervasio Deferr (ESP) and Ana Pavlova (RUS), who for reasons of injury or a compromised physical condition will not be participating.

Nonetheless, the number of participants is growing with each day. The cream of the crop will be in Madrid for the final act in an Olympic year bounding with exciting events.
