28th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, May 31, 2012: At one of the last major meets in the run-up to London 2012, the European Rhythmic Gymnastics elite is preparing for the Olympic Games at the 28th European Championships. The event takes place from June 1 – 3, 2012, in Nizhny Novgorod (RUS), scene of several FIG World Cup competitions in this discipline in the past, and includes competitions for juniors and seniors.
While the juniors compete in the Individual category with Qualifications, Team Competition and Apparatus Finals, the 17 registered senior Groups will battle it out for the European titles in the All-around and Apparatus Finals. Moreover, the 20 best Individual gymnasts from Competition I of the 2011 European Championships will present their routines in an All-around competition.
The seniors’ roster includes 2010 title holder Evgenia Kanaeva (RUS), runner-up Daria Kondakova (RUS) and Bronze medallist Aliya Garayeva (AZE), as well as the Groups from Russia, Belarus and Italy, who shared the medals in Bremen (GER) 2010.
