London (GBR), July 27 – August 12, 2012

LONDON (GBR), FIG Office, August 12, 2012: After having dominated Saturday’s Individual competition, Russia followed up by winning their fourth consecutive Olympic Gold in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Group All-around Final at Wembley Arena on Sunday.

Russia, who qualified first to the final above three-time World Champions Italy, tossed to a 0.575-point lead with their classical routine with five Balls in the first rotation that scored 28.700 points. They scored 28.300 for their Brazilian carnival-themed routine with two Hoops and three Ribbons in the second rotation, finishing with an All-around total of 57.000 points. Russia earned the highest Difficulty, Artistry and Execution scores for each routine.

Third in qualifications, Belarus moved ahead of Italy for Silver with 55.500 points, reflecting 27.825 points for their regal routine with five Balls and 27.675 points for their Latin-flavoured routine with two Hoops and three Ribbons. Intricate formations and excellent synchronisation among the group members earned Belarus their third Group All-around medal in Games history, improving one position from Beijing 2008.

Italy equaled or bettered Belarus in Difficulty and Artistry scores in both routines, and outscored Belarus in Execution in the routine with two Hoops and three Ribbons. Italy merited only 8.800 points in Execution for their latter performance, however, and dropped 0.050 points behind Belarus in the final standings. Italy won Bronze with 55.450 points, a result that marked their second group medal in Games history, following Silver at Athens 2004.

Spain finished fourth with 54.950 points, followed by Ukraine in fifth with 54.375 points. Bulgaria, who were third after the first routine, experienced apparatus handling problems in their second routine to place sixth.
